The pair will be discussing their professional practice that spans media ranging from 3D fabrication to indie games as well as their new adventure as co-founders of falsework studio, an incubator for artists developing new works. falsework studio: Incubating Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Jiang and Doyle will co-present an artist talk introducing their individual artistic practices and framing the evolution of their shared creative vision through falsework studio—an artist-centered studio and incubator focused on developing artist’s original intellectual property (IP) across multiple formats as a response to the rapid rise and integration of artificial intelligence tools into creative work.
The talk will begin with a brief introduction to past work: Jiang will share projects that bridge digital and physical space through fabrication, 3D scanning, and social media, including Shanzhai Remix (2017), which offers insight into research-based and materially grounded approaches to new media. Doyle will highlight new media artworks and immersive experiences for artists and architectural technologists, including Other Spring and Co-Infinite 3.0, which integrate generative AI, experimental VFX pipelines, and real-time media.
The second half of the talk will focus on their collaborative journey—why the pair founded falsework studio, and how they see the studio as both a service provider and an incubator for artist-led IP. They will share the development of their in-house project Spider Lily, an atmospheric indie game inspired by Chinese mythologies of the afterlife, across multiple formats: real-time gameplay, immersive performance, and 3D-printed sculpture. Spider Lily illustrates how falsework studio brings creative expression into production pipelines, supporting artists in building richly developed worlds that can translate into games, film, interactive media, and physical installation.
This talk is aimed at students and faculty working across media arts, games, film, and digital culture. It’s both a behind-the-scenes look at creative incubation and an open invitation to rethink sustainable models for creative practice in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Matthew J.X. Doyle is the founder of falsework studio, a creative studio and incubator based in Los Angeles. falsework builds temporary structures for play, thought, and disruption through working with artists who unsettle cultural feedback loops. By moving across media, falsework makes space for new ways of sensing and telling.
Prior to founding falsework, Matthew built his career as an independent producer of new media projects. In this role, he collaborated with artists to realize ambitious works in mixed reality theater, simulation, VR, video, and digital games. Passionate about adapting narratives into emerging media forms, the projects he produced for artists zzyw, Theo Triantafyllidis, and Dynasty Handbag have been presented by leading institutions including Sundance New Frontiers (2020, 2021), Hyundai’s Art Lab, the Onassis Foundation, Ars Electronica, and the BFI London Film Festival.
Yuehao Jiang is an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles exploring the surreal intersections between digital bodies and landscapes. Working with 3D animation, sculpture and painting, Jiang constructs immersive environments that blur the boundaries between the physical and the virtual. Spider Lily is her first game, based on a series of wax pastel drawings that became a story, a series of sculptures, and a 3D world. Jiang holds a MFA in Design Media Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has held teaching appointments at UCLA Design Media Arts and Parsons School of Design. She is a co-founder of falsework studio.
